‘Some Nights’ is a lilting ode that charts the unravelling of identity in the wake of loss. Guided by Y.C. Liu’s velvet baritone voice as it dances above flickering guitar-chords and swelling waves of choir-harmonies, the recording has an unmistakable warmth that evokes the feeling of a family huddled around a campfire. The melodies leap and dive, making way for the expressive imagery of the lyrics that are both arresting and relatable in their vulnerability.
